AMD A8 3870K | Review

“The best budget gaming PC available today “ –  Tipsengine

I have been using this AMD APU for a month now and decided that now is the right time to make note of what I achieved so far with this amazing piece of technology. I bought the processor at a cheap rate of 6800 Rupees(about 125$ )  . I had to choose from intel i3 2120 (sandy bridge) and this one as I didn’t want to spend more on a desktop and I havn’t regretted my decision so far. I knew from  some forums that if I had bought an intel processor then I also have to buy a graphics card for decent gaming performance.

The processor along with its on-die  graphics   AMD Radeon HD 6550D gave me a decent performance  in 1600*900 resolution with high details. If I want ,I can still increase its graphics performance by cross-firing with HD 6670 Graphics card. It will not happen anytime soon as I want to invest more on an ultrabook.

The motherboard which I am using is Asus F1A75MLE. I tweaked the graphics core speed to 900 Mhz from 600 Mhz to get maximum performance which it seamlessly delivered.Note that there is only 512 MB ondie graphics and 1 GB shared . Also I managed to get it running the CPU clock speed at 3.6 Ghz with the stock cooler. Since the processor can support  1866 Mhz DDR3 Ram , I overclocked my 1600 Mhz Ram to the above configuration.
I was able to equal ( or in some case overcome ) the benchmarks given by Anandtech. Even when I was playing Fifa 12 with all its might the cores were just at 40% .
Also disk transfer speeds were amazing. I got 150 MB/s on my HDD to HDD file transfer . SATA 6GB/s and USB 3.0 ran seamlessly on this topping the manufacturer’s limit.

AMD Overdrive , Vision Engine ; Pretty Useful

This software designed by AMD proved to be much useful as I managed to overclock the processor without needing to enter into BIOS.  Though the max temperature allowed is 95 Degrees it just touched only 65 at 3.6 GHz. I can tweak almost everything but only a few interested me.
The UEFI BIOS also proved easy to use as I was able to use the mouse too.  But I noticed that during overclocking from amd overdrive there is a decrease in bus speed which is not seen in BIOS tweaking.

Gaming Performance

I will post detailed gaming performance later as I am yet to try a few more . All games were played in 1600*900 resolution with ultra settingss at 3.6 GHz CPU and 900MHz GPU.

You can check out the FPS of some of the games from various sites .Here I am presenting you some of my gaming instances from DiRT 3 in which i got an avg of 20 FPS @ 3.6 GHz core clock :

Windows Phone 8; Worth the wait!

Microsoft has finally announced its next generation windows phone OS – windows phone 8 aka Apollo.
Most rumors about it came true as it proved to be a giant leap from its predecessor; windows phone 7.5 codenamed Mango.  Here are a few features which make Apollo distinct from Mango:

  •          Support for multicore processors
  •          Support for 3 major screen resolutions
  •          Support for removable SD card
  •          New start screen with bigger and customizable tiles
  •          Same kernel as windows 8 pc OS, allowing more integration with pc.
  •          Improved Zune software to sync with pc

Another major announcement by Microsoft stated that existing line of windows phone 7.5 will not be updated to windows 8 but to windows phone 7.8 featuring a similar start screen as windows phone 8.
Though this came as a shock to Microsoft fans, authorities clarified that windows phone 8 apps will be backward compatible with windows phone 7.

Hard Disk price increased by 100% !

Have you ever wondered why hard disk price continues to go up like Petrol while that of other consumer electronics is coming down ?

Now 1 TB USB 3.0  HDD at flipkart costs around 7300 INR .Have you noticed it ?

The major reason can be attributed to recent Thailand Flood which forced HDD manufacturing units in Thailand to shut down completely . As you know, Thailand manufactures 1/3rd of all HDD in the world .So this event had hit the HDD industry pretty badly.

Other reasons such as declining value of indian rupee , price hike  have little to do with it.

Prices are expected to come down in the next few months during which the major stake holders are expected to increase their production.

Update :  Hard disk prices will continue to remain high till 2014 due contracts made between vendors and manufacturers.

Buying a Laptop ? Just Wait !!!

WHY ????

      credits :INTEL
    • Intel 3rd generation Ivy bridge processors (note book version) are set to launch this June . They are significantly much more energy efficient than the current line of 2nd generation Sandy bridge processors due to their unique 3D transistor technology. It means more  battery life . They have also much better usb 3.0 support and better hardware integration of windows 8.

    Lenovo Yoga -tablet/laptop hybrid
    •  You may say windows 8 is a software and you could install it on any current system .Well, you are partially correct. But windows 8 is entirely different from Windows7. Its more suited to touch screen products. Companies are also planning to launch touch enabled laptops in awake of Windows 8 launch. But you have to wait even longer , Windows 8 is scheduled to launch this September/October.

      Moto Razr XT910 review

STAY BACK ! THE LORD IS HERE!

Beware! Motorola RAZR XT910 is out looking for blood- of the best droids phones . And it will bite them where it hurts .

And with a dual-core processor running at 1.2GHz and 1GB RAM, it's got good enough processing power to challenge the other dual-cores "babies". It has an 8MP camera with 1080p recording too.
But even those specs just aren’t as interesting as the sheer look of the thing. The RAZR droid is only 7.1mm thick throughout and about 10.7mm at the bulge that holds the camera.

      Key features

      • Dual-core 1.2GHz ARM Cortex-A9 processor, PowerVR SGX540 GPU, TI OMAP 4430 chipset; 1GB of RAM
      • Android OS v2.3.5 with customized UI
      • 8 MP autofocus camera with LED flash; face detection, geotagging; 1.3MP front-mounted secondary camera
      • 1080p video recording @ 30fps; Slo-mo VGA@120 fps
      • Dual-band Wi-Fi ab/g/n; Wi-Fi hotspot functionality; DLNA
      • GPS with A-GPS; Digital compass
      •
      • Stunningly thin 7.1mm body, splash resistant
      • Quad-band GSM and quad-band 3G with HSDPA and HSUPA
      • 4.3" 16M-color capacitive SuperAMOLED touchscreen of qHD resolution (960 x 540 pixels, 256ppi), scratch-resistant Gorilla glass
      • 16GB storage; expandable via a microSD slot
      • Accelerometer and proximity sensor
      • Standard 3.5 mm audio jack
      • microUSB port (charging) and stereo Bluetooth v4.0 with LE and A2DP
      • standard microHDMI port; Web Top compatible (docks sold separately)
      • Smart dial, voice dialing
      • Office document editor; MOTOPRINT app to print Office docs
      • Active noise cancellation with a dedicated secondary mic
      • DivX/XviD/X264 video support
      • Web browser with Adobe Flash 11 support

      Main disadvantages

      • Non-user-replaceable battery
      • The phone is thicker at the top
      • Bigger than other phones with the same screen size
      • Screen uses PenTile matrix (offset by high ppi); a little dim too
      • No FM radio
      • No dedicated shutter key
      • MicroSIM card support only
      • The RAZR may be thin but it's hardly fragile - it uses Kevlar to cover its back and Gorilla Glass to secure the front. It's splash-resistant too.
Are the other droids shaking in their boots already? They should be - the Motorola RAZR has an impressive array of accessories by its side, including one that turns it into a full-fledged 14" Android-running netbook (full-size keyboard, Firefox browser, etc.).

The expectations are high - with this many talents on its resume, the Motorola RAZR will try to slash other droid's hopes of being the best. But does it have the (retail) package for it? And is the hardware as good as it sounds?
If you're not afraid of sharp objects, jump to the next page and find out. We've got our first aid kit at hand, just in case.
